Catholic Life & Reflection
Today, while I was on duty, some Year Two children were talking about playing “flush the toilet”. Don’t panic it is not as bad as it sounds! The game is that you all stand on the truck tyre down in the junior playground and jump into the sandy middle.
When I was teaching Kindergarten in the early 90’s at St John’s they played this game. Although I remember it being called “flush the dunny” at the time. How is it that this unique game is still being played?
I suspect it must have been passed down from older children to younger over all of this time. The playground grapevine works well. As we celebrate our 40th Anniversary I wonder what other traditions are continued that we just do because we are St John’s?
I know St John’s to be a joy filled, caring and dynamic community. A melting pot of cultures, faiths and ideas. It is always buzzing with excitement and humour and always focussed on the compassionate heart of Jesus.
I am so looking forward to seeing old friends and celebrating our story on Sunday.
God bless
