Dear Parents and Carers,

A lot of talking happens in a school, but hopefully, there is even more listening. Communication is central to our existence as human beings. As spiritual beings, our communication with God is essential for our wholeness. The most obvious form of communication with God is through prayer, which is about building a relationship specifically, with God.

A treasured prayer in our Catholic Tradition is the Rosary, and next month, October, is dedicated to emphasising the Rosary. The Rosary is a reflection of the life of Jesus. The more we learn about these stories and contemplate the mystery of God becoming human, the more we can understand and appreciate God's presence in our lives. The Rosary offers an intimate insight into God’s extraordinary love and compassion.

During the holidays (Tuesday, 7th October), we will celebrate the Feast of the Rosary. Prayer is essential to deepening our relationship with God, and Mary serves as our model for prayer. Praying the Rosary in her company can guide us toward personal fulfillment and unity with God.

End of Term Awards

We extend our congratulations to the students who were recognised with End of Term Awards for Academic Achievement, Consistent Effort, or Discipleship. These awards reflect their commitment, perseverance, and positive contribution to our school community.

Footy Fever Day!

We celebrated ‘Footy Fever Day’ on Thursday 25th September. Students were encouraged to dress in their team’s footy colours or ‘sporting’ attire. Monies raised will go towards the Brad Hardy Foundation and also to buy some sporting equipment for the children to enjoy.  There were a couple of hundred pies and sausage rolls enjoyed by the staff and students. Thank you for your support with this event.

A Big Shout out to Staff

On behalf of the children and their families I thank each staff member for their efforts during the term. I continue to be impressed with and thankful for the dedication and care shown by all the staff at St John the Apostle. Your children are definitely in good hands.

Farewell

Thank you to Mr Christopher Evans who has done a stellar job as Acting Religious Education Co-ordinator for Term 3. We will return to Holy Rosary for the remainder of the year to teach his Year 6 class. We also congratulate Chris on his permanent appointment as Religious Education Coordinator beginning next year at St John Vianney’s Primary School, Waramanga.

Caring For Our School

ACT Policing will be increasing pro-active patrols around schools during the holidays, but we are also asking you, the community, to assist us in ensuring our schools remain secure.

Anyone who observes anti-social behaviour or suspicious activity around schools is urged to report this to police immediately on 131 444. This includes suspicious persons or vehicles seen at odd hours of the night, and any signs of potential criminal activity such as the sound of breaking glass, spray cans or electrical equipment being used at odd hours. By working together with police you can help to ensure that our school remains secure over the holidays, allowing our children to get the education they truly deserve.

Staffing News

Our Office Manager, Ms Leanne Griffiths will enjoy some well-deserved Long Service Leave which will include what looks to be an amazing trip to South Africa.  We welcome Anne Parker to the Front Office for the first few weeks of Term 4. We thank you in advance for your patience and support.

School resumes for Term Four on Tuesday 14th October.

Enjoy some special time with your family these holidays.

Blessings.
