Sports this Week at St John's

Saint John's had a very busy sporting week this week. On Tuesday we had 43 students represent our school at the Belconnen Region Athletics carnival at the AIS. We had a beautiful day with the weather and all of the children did very well in their events. They enjoyed the chance to use the excellent facilities at the AIS and see their times flash up on the big screen.

We had three students qualify for the ACT Athletics championships. Vincent Nott qualified for long jump for the 12 year boys, Isabelle Jeffs qualified for both the 100 metres and 200 metres for the 12 year girls and Rylee Terron qualified for both the 70 metres and 100 metres for the 9 year girls. Congratulations to these three children and we wish you luck at the ACT championships.

On Wednesday we had the Boys Oz tag Gala day at Kaleen ovals. Again we had a nice day with the weather. The Girls Gala day was held on Thursday. We all woke up with the rain falling but after a nervous wait we found out that the day was going ahead. It was a little bit chilly but the girls kept warm with all their running. In total, we had eight teams represent Saint John's over the two days. We were very fortunate to have parents volunteer to coach the teams. A huge thanks to those parents who gave up their time to help out. We also had Mrs Dess coach a girl's team and Miss Eastman and Miss Rabbets coach another girl's team. All the coaches said they thoroughly enjoyed the day and that the student's behaviour was excellent on each day.

A highlight from the two Oz tag day's was watching our Eagles 5/6 Girls teams in their very first game. The majority of our team was quite inexperienced with playing Oz tag and they came up against a team that had five ACT Oz tag players in it. The girls didn't let it worry them and they kept playing with 100% commitment for the whole game. They showed great resilience and the girls tagged so well that they actually saved many tries. Miss Eastman, Miss Rabbets and I were very proud of them.

It was a wonderful week of sporting events for Saint John's. We look forward to doing it all over again in Term Four when we head to Boorowa for the sports carnival there. We have multiple netball and touch football teams entered and it is always a wonderful day.

Thanks,
Ryan Spencer
