Library News

On Monday, students from Years 3-6 had a visit from Katrina Nannestad. Katrina is a very talented author, who has won many prestigious children's literature awards.

Katrina spoke with Years 3 and 4 about using her imagination to create stories. Through using her imagination, Katrina has written magical and inspiring stories which incorporate her love of travel, food, books and humour. She encouraged students to write about what they are passionate about and let their imagination go wild!

Katrina has a collection of books about historical events, with a focus on World War 2. Her stories focus on the perspectives of children in the war zones, and what their lives were like. Katrina spoke to Year 5 and 6 students about her process for crafting these novels. With a large emphasis on in depth research, she immerses herself in the history and cultures of the region, and then creates realistic characters, which she imagines going through the events that took place at the time. Her focus on strong character development, with a large base of research helps to bring the history alive.

If you would like to purchase any of her books, they are still available at the Book Cow for delivery to the school.

I have organised two virtual author talks for Kindergarten to Year 2 next week  - Matt Cosgrove (author of Macca the Alpaca and The Worst Week Ever series), and Laura Bunting (author of the Wild Life series and Koalas Eat Gum Leaves).

As CBCA Book Week approaches, students have been discussing what character they would like to dress up as for the Book Character Parade on Friday 22nd August at 8:45am. Parents and carers are welcome to come and watch! The theme for this year is “Book an Adventure”, however children are welcome to come dressed up as any book character. If you are stuck for costume ideas, here are a selection of books that have easy costumes!

We have the "Suitcase of Stories" competition going at the moment. Entries are due to the library by Wednesday. Please see the below flyer. In order to give students time to guess each others' books, I will announce the winners in week 6 or 7. There will be prizes for creativity, as well as some random draws.

Happy reading!
