Religious Education
This week, across the school we have been getting ready for the Feast of the Assumption of Mary on Friday! This great feast of the Church is celebrated each year on the 15th of August, and is a Holy Day of Obligation. This shows that the solemnity is so important that all Catholics are required to attend Mass.
Students have been learning about the wonderful example that Mary shows us, of a woman who was always willing to put her faith in God. Mary was the first disciple and journeyed with Jesus from before His birth to His death and Resurrection. The Assumption celebrates how Mary, at the end of her earthly life, was taken body and soul into Heaven, to take up her place as our great intercessor and loving advocate.
Years 5 and 6 were very lucky on Thursday to be joined by Fr. Chung, who came to talk to them about the Mass, and answer their questions (as well as ask some!)
Fr. Chung spoke about the important example of Mary, and how Jesus loves Mary just as we love our mothers. Just like we always carry a special place in our hearts for our mothers, so does God! Father also spoke about the idea of intercession, that Mary and the saints pray with us, and take our prayers to God. The saints do not grant prayers, only God does, but like a teacher might put in a good word for a student, or an older sibling come and talk to a parent on their little siblings behalf, so can Mary and the saints!
Above all, with each class, Fr. Chung explained that Mary was taken up body and soul into Heaven, and we can aspire to join her there, looking forward to the resurrection of the body and life everlasting!
I hope you and your families have a blessed week!
