Catholic Life and Reflection

What Students Are Learning About

This week, Year 1 have been preparing to present ‘The Emmaus Story’ at our whole school prayer assembly.

Two of Jesus' friends were walking along the road to Emmaus.

Jesus met them. But they did not know it was Jesus. Jesus explained that his life, death and resurrection were God's loving plan.

By his life Jesus gave us the kingdom of God. By his death God forgave everyone for their wrongdoings. By his resurrection Jesus won life for us with God in heaven.

The two men saw that the stranger was no stranger all. When he broke the bread they realised it was Jesus. They were filled with joy.

Thank you to Miss McIver, Mr Doepel and Year 1 students for presenting this story with such reverence and imagination.

Catholic Life and Reflection

My favourite Psalm is 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God”.  The Psalm calls us to take time to pause and reflect. It reminds us that God is still in control no matter what happens in our lives.

I went on a retreat a couple of years ago and was given a mug with the Psalm printed on it.  When leaving the retreat, participants were encouraged to start each morning having a cup of tea of coffee with God. I find that the days I take the time to do this, I remember that God is all around me and with me.  It might be in an amazing sunrise or even just something small and pretty in the garden that I’ve previously rushed past.  The days that I take the time to “Be still and know that I am God” are the days that turn out to be the days that I am at my best.  I carry that five minute of calm with me throughout the day in my interactions with others.
