Catholic Life & Reflection
Twice in my life I have been awestruck by the suffering that Mary must have experienced.
The first time was when I was heavily pregnant with my eldest son and was at Christmas Mass. I had to go the bathroom, again, and waddled down the steps and across the Hall. Holy Spirit was yet to be in its current location and was using the hall at Gold Creek high school. It felt like a terribly long walk and I was so uncomfortable. In that moment I felt for the young girl who had to sit on a small donkey, over a rocky path, in the heat and dust with her heavy load. That feeling of connection to her story has stayed with me.
The second time was this Good Friday at the Stations of the Cross. My eldest was Jesus. At the moment when he fell and the cross thrown to the ground echoed through the church I jumped. I almost got up to help. I was worried that he had really fallen. I was teary for the rest of the liturgy. The agony Mary must have felt as she watched her son walk to his death, even with her strong faith.
There are times when scripture speaks to us so keenly and times when it seems light years removed.
God will speak to us through scripture we just have to find WHICH scripture speaks to us.
I would love to know what your favourite scripture pieces are.
