Dear St John the Apostle families,
On Tuesday evening we celebrated the graduation of our Year 6 students. We were so pleased to gather together as a whole year level of families, outside under the trees.
I would just like to again express my thanks and farewell to the families who are leaving our community this year. Thank you for the privilege of working alongside you to support your child's education. Thank you for being a part of the St John the Apostle story. We are a better school for having had you be part of it.
While we were proud of all of our Year 6 students we were also pleased to present the Year 6 awards to the following students.
- Discipleship Award: Jessica Madsen and Evelina Tuipeatau
- Leadership Award: Hudson Henshaw and Apajok Garang
- Outstanding Effort Award: Archie Beveridge and Ronan Hamilton
- Academic Acheivement Award: James Jeffs and Apajok Garang
- Citizenship Award: Hudson Henshaw
- Rotary Citizenship Award: Jasmine Kelly
I would like to wish all of our Year 6 students the very best for their future. May God continue to bless them and may they continue to know God's love for them, as they are, throughout their lives.
Student Leaders 2022
Earlier this week we announced to the students the School Captains for 2022. Congratulations to:
- Nicolai Librando
- Emily Anderson
Nicolai and Emily were voted by their peers as school captains and we know they will do a wonderful job!
Congratulations to all of our Peer Leaders for 2022, also voted by their peers. They are Emilio, Yusha, Lucas, Vuyo, Anna, Isabella T, Mia, Elizabeth, Zara, Otis, Daven, Seth, Lily, Hayley, Bhoomika and Amy.
Every student in Year 5 prepared and delivered a speech. Every one of them will be a student leader in 2022. The above students simply have some extra responsibilities.
We look forward to supporting all of our Year 6 students in growing and maturing in preparation for high school.
Christmas Video
Below is the link to our Christmas video filled with singing and dancing from every class. Thank you to Mrs French, Performing Arts Teacher, who organised each of the class performances. Thank you also to Mrs Hudson who helped Mrs French, Mr Biilmann who filmed students and Mrs Collins and Mrs Watson for organising the Kindergarten nativity. The video will stay up to view during the Christmas and New Year break and then be taken down again (It's a big file so make sure you're connected to wifi to watch it).
Thank you everyone for a fantastic year. Thank you all for working together so much as a community and for supporting your child's schooling through some challenging times.
Peace and joy to you all this Christmas and I hope you all have a well earned rest.

Sue Ferguson Award
Sue Ferguson was a teacher at St John the Apostle Primary School from 1990 until her passing in 2014. Sue loved music, singing and the Arts; her love of music will live on in the memories of future generations of children attending St John the Apostle through the awarding of an annual scholarship. This scholarship is donated annually by her husband Doug Ferguson to one Year Two student. The successful recipient of the Sue Ferguson Award for 2021 is Austin Patrzalek.
Transitions for students on Personalised Plans
Today, Rebecca Neiberding (Inclusion Teacher) has sent emails to parents of students on personalised plans to come in with their child to do an informal meet and greet during the week before school returns.
Merry Christmas
I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas with their families and a restful break. I look forward to seeing everyone in 2022.

Assistant Principal and Inclusion Coordinator
What are we learning about?
For many years we have participated in a Passing of the Light Ceremony, a way of handing the student leadership on to the next generation. This week staff and students have participated in our very first Cornerstone Ceremony.
So that we could remain Covid safe, we were challenged to create a different experience. We knew we would be outside so we had lots of space. A few students desperately wanted to use dance to express themselves and created a liturgical dance.
The song we used was from Owl City “In Christ Alone”
It reflects the scripture Isaiah 28:16, "Therefore this says the Lord God: 'Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation.'
Year 6 students laid a smooth flat stone on the ground and Year 5 placed a smaller one on top. This was to symbolise that we use the strength and balance of those who went before us to be the best leaders we can be.
Jesus is our strength and our cornerstone. We do all things through Him. It is certainly how I try to lead and live my life.
Many blessings to all of our families for the rest of 2021. May 2022 bring much joy and peace to you all.
God bless,
Stephanie Stewart
Religious Education Coordinator
Notices from the Parish
Happy birthday to Anabelle-Louise T, Abbey W, Daven M, Charlotte H, Evelina T and Jasmine M who all celebrated a birthday over the last week.
Please note that we ask students to not bring home made cupcakes to share with the class for their birthdays. This is a precautionary measure for health and hygiene. The Canteen offers a number of options to share with the class. Purchases can be made through the QKR app.
Congratulations to the following students who received the End of Term Awards.

Exposing kids to challenges helps prevent anxiety in later life
With one in six Australian children and teenagers experiencing anxiety on a regular basis it’s essential that kids are provided with the skills and experiences needed to develop mental resilience.
